Food


Food is an essential part of the Lifton Hall experience, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. We have something to suit every taste and appetite, using only the best quality local produce wherever possible. We aim to serve good, honest food and make most of items we serve on the premises.We're well known for our hand-cut chips, and there's nothing better than a proper chip to accompany your fish or steak.

We have an excellent butcher and fishmonger, and a great supply of fresh fruit and vegetables across all seasons - we even grow some of our own.

To keep your choices varied the menu includes a selection of Specials that change from day-to-day. For those who prefer not to eat meat we offer a small selection of vegetarian meals and can usually rustle up something if there's nothing you fancy on the menu.

Breakfast


Breakfast, they say, is the most important meal of the day. We always prepare our breakfasts to order so that the food we serve is fresh and of the best quality. As well as our full English breakfast, containing all your favourite breakfast items (and a couple of local ones - such as Hog's Pudding), we also have a selection of 'healthy' options, including a fruit smoothie or a fresh fruit plate. We make most of our own marmalade and jams, using fruit from local farms and friends.

Fresh Fairtrade coffee and a selection of teas are available.

Lunches and evening meals


Lunchtimes we offer a selection of lighter, snack items, but the full menu is also available too. Evenings we serve our full menu and a number of specials. We're always happy to be flexible if you have a particular dietary requirement - just ask.

We try to keep things fairly seasonal so our menu changes from time to time. The following is just a sample from our current menu:

Starters

  • King prawns in filo - served with a Japanese dipping sauce
  • Smooth duck liver pate with warm granary toast and homemade chutney
  • Spiced chicken skewers drizzled with sweet chilli and lime
  • Smoked haddock and spring onion fishcake served with dill mayonnaise

Mains

  • Fillet of beef stroganoff, served with basmati rice
  • Hand carved Devonshire gammon ham, cooked on the premises, served with free range eggs and hand-cut chips
  • Provencal chicken - with roasted vegetables in a rich tomato sauce
  • Rump steak - 8 or 12oz - cooked to your liking and served with grilled tomato, flat mushroom and hand-cut chips
  • Thai vegetable curry served with fragrant basmati rice
  • Olive and green pestopanzotti 

Desserts

  • Ice-cream gateau - home-made layers of biscuit crumb and ice-cream, scattered with nuts and marshmallow
  • Chocolate brownie served warm with fudge sauce and ice-cream
  • Chocolate Pot - A delightful confection of Chocolate, Cream, Eggs and Brandy. Served cold with Cookies
  • Selection of 4 West Country cheeses

 

Sunday lunch


For sunday lunch the menu is simpler. We serve a full roast dinner with a choice of meats accompanied by all the trimmings. We always have a selection of other meals available, including a vegetarian option, and a fish choice, because we know that not everyone likes a roast dinner. If there's nothing on the menu you like please ask. Our fuller menu can be available if requested in advance when reserving a table. 

Tuesday Night Food Club


Every other Tuesday is a food themed night at Lifton Hall. The food is served in a 'family style' and everyone gets the same. Past nights have included Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Indian. We've even been known to theme our Tuesday Night Food Club around calendar events - Halloween was loads of fun, and our School Dinners Night is one not to be missed.

Its always best to book on a Tuesday night.
