Local attractions
We’re very lucky at The Lifton Hall Hotel. There are loads of amazing things to do and see all around us and you’ll literally be spoilt for choice when you visit.
Because there are so many different things to do across Devon and Cornwall (far too many to list here), and because there are much better tourist information sites, we’ve listed just a few of our favourites to whet your appetite and get you started. There are links to the main tourist information sites on the left – so you can have a good look around at what Devon and Cornwall have to offer.
The Village is a quiet village, but with plenty going-on. If you want to get to know the village you could follow the Lifton Trail, which takes in the main sites. There are some lovely, gentle walks from the village or within a few minutes drive. You can meander along babbling rivers, across luscious, green countryside or high onto the moors.
Nearby Our nearest towns are Launceston and Tavistock, and both are worth a visit. Launceston is just over the border into Cornwall, and is the county’s ancient capital. There is a castle, a museum, a steam railway and a selection of shops, pubs and cafés. Tavistock is an old stannary town, and has a number of attractions, including a large pannier market.
Close to Lifton is Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre. Here you can see the National Fairground Collection (and ride on many of them) as well as a collection of industrial and road steam engines. Just up the road is Roadford Lake, where you can try a variety of water sports, cast your rod for a spot of fishing, walk in the peaceful surroundings or sit in the restaurant looking out over the water.
